We have an opportunity to lead the world in the invention, production and implementation of large scale renewable energy production and distribution. Using wind from the coastal and plain states, solar from the south and south west and installing a smart grid would produce power far in excess of our needs for heat, light, industrial power and transportaion. Congress must see beyond the near term benefits of profits for existing interests to the long term benefits for the entire nation. Please use your power to lead us to a national goal of energy independence using renewable sources! Congress has addresses large scale power needs before with hydro-electric plants in the West and, most importantly, the creation of the Tennessee Vally Authority during the 30's. Dire times require big moves,. A national power program using renewables is a quick way to reach Obama's 25% goal.

Agree with Shelly on wording and suggest that all alternative renewable resources should be included in the plan for replacing fossil and nuclear fuel sources. Further suggest that using a Tennessee Valley Authority model on a national scale is the best, quickest way to realize large scale production and distribution of clean renewable power for our national use. We did it in the 30s for the south, creating cheap energy to industrialize an entire region. We can do it for the nation, creating jobs and revenue for all.

The technology for storing solar power over long periods of time exists. Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) plants storing heat at the thousands of degree level allow for continuous steam turbine production of electricity during cloudy or dark periods. Spain has one up and running. Several firms have CSP plants in the contruction process in the US. Google CSP for more information. The problem is not the technology to produce more than enough power for all interests and purposes for our nation. The problem is the scope and cost of a national transformation. It requires a national program with the cooperation of all elements of our society, just like our effort in WW II. We can do it if the nation pushes for a national program like the Tennessee Valley Authority program of the 1930's but dedicated to renewable power production and distribution. Please enter TVA in the search box to see and vote for the suggestion that congress pursue a large scale national solution to the renewable energy problem.
